I will not be afraid
I don’t know if you have watched the new animated movie, David or not. If you have, I hope you enjoyed it and if not, go watch it. Yes, it takes creative licensing and adds to the story but since I wasn’t there I don’t really know. I did have to go and re-read some of the story because there was some of the story that I wanted to know if it was real or not, according to the Bible. It stays fairly accurate but like I said they added some content for effect, I’m sure.
I took my grandson, Daniel, to see it when it came out and he loved it. My other grandkids had already seen it and loved it. Tally, the baby sheep, was a favorite. We just rewatched it last night and I love hearing my granddaughter, Allie, go around singing the songs. Shalom is her favorite right now. I am glad movies are being made that engage our littles with Bible stories that are worth watching and make them fun. Even though there are hard lessons to learn it’s nice to have movies we can watch and teach them from.
My favorite scene is the end where David goes to where the Amalekites have stolen all their families. The people tell the Amalekites that their king will deliver them and then David shows up. As he is singing and walking toward them, I get goosebumps. There is an exchange and as David is tied to the tree he starts singing…
The Lord is my light
Whom shall I fear?
Stronghold of my life
Whom shall I fear?
Though the arrows may fly
By night and by day
I will not be afraid
The only thing that I want
Is to dwell with the Lord
If we don't win today
He is still my reward
So whatever may come
Whatever we face
I will not be afraid-uh
I will not be afrai-uh
I will not be afraid
(I will not be afraid)
I will not be afraid
(I will not be afraid)

Then his people start standing up one by one and start singing, “I will not be afraid” and as they do this they are knocked down. Finally, they all stand united and sing. David’s men show up over the same mountain David just walked down, and it goes from dark to light as the people are singing this. God has shown up or maybe just revealed Himself because He was always with David. All I know is he is facing certain death and in the midst of it all he sings. If you have watched the movie you know. My grandkids stand and sing along with the movie. I want to do the same thing. Regardless of whether it happened like that, it is still a powerful scene, at least to me. I do know the words are powerful on their own.
The only thing that I want
Is to dwell with the Lord
If we don't win today
He is still my reward
So whatever may come
Whatever we face
I will not be afraid-uh
I will not be afraid-uh
Is that your song today? Let it be!
